Traffic Scotland is advising motorists to avoid the A9 at Aviemore.

The road was closed this evening at 6.29 after an accident north of the village between an HGB vehicle and a car, emergency services report.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service send appliances from Aviemore, Kinguissie, Inverness and Grantown to tend the scene but they are now reported to have returned to their bases.

No confirmation of any casualties has yet come.

Both northbound and southbound traffic is still affected.

"Road users are advised to use an alternative route at this time," a Traffic Scotland spokesperson said.
