A86 diversions still in place after last night's landfall

Traffic Scotland diversions are still in place in the hope of avoiding any build up on the A86 near Roy Bridge after an all-night closure.

Heavy rainfall caused a landslide on the Badenoch-Spean Bridge trunk road, after a week’s worth of rain fell over six hours.

Parts of Badenoch and Strathspey were racked with electric storms last evening and the rough weather continued moving southwards, causing localised devastation in some areas.

SEPA have put 16 flood alerts in place across the country.

Last night a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland would like to advise that due to landslides, there is a road closure on the A86 between Laggan and Spean Bridge.

“The B863 is also closed in its entirety. Diversions are in place and the public are asked to avoid the area if possible.”

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms for Today, covering most of the west of Scotland.

The road closed at 7:02pm last night and remains closed while workmen attempt to restore the thoroughfare.
