Alcohol bid for third Inverness Travelodge
Work to open a new Travelodge in Inverness could take another step forward next week.
The hotel giant has applied to Highland Council for a provisional premises licence for its new 54-room hotel in Academy Street.
It has taken a 25-year lease on Ballantyne House, which formerly held offices, in a £5 million investment which will create 15 new jobs.
On Tuesday the council’s licensing board will decide whether to grant an on-sales alcohol licence for the cafe bar on the ground floor of the five-storey hotel.
No objections have been lodged against the licence, although an officer noted the hotel has not yet been built.
A report for Tuesday’s committee said: “The licensing standards officer has reviewed the operating plan submitted and is satisfied that it is compliant with the current policy of the licensing board.”
The hotel is scheduled to open in December, making it the company’s third hotel in the Highland capital. It already operates hotels at Fairways and Stoneyfield.
Travelodge claims the new hotel will boost the local economy annual by £2 million.
