A fairer deal for motorists

WELL done to MHR Retail Ltd (also known as Malthurst) who have given local motorists a fairer deal at the fuel pump.

They have taken the bold step of launching their own petrol service station brand TORQ and started the roll-out right here in Badenoch and Strathspey.

As a result they have taken a portion of their previous fuel supplier’s mark-up out of the pump price and been able to pass on some of the benefit to residents through two discount schemes.

Combined with the current retail price of unleaded and diesel at the TORQ stations, it means that fuel prices locally are now cheaper in most cases than those in Inverness.

We never thought we would report that!

On occasions during the past year the difference in unleaded and diesel prices between Inverness and three MHR Retail forecourts in the strath has been nearly 10 pence per litre.

Hopefully the firm will be rewarded for their initiative by more local motorists buying their fuel here rather than waiting for a trip to Inverness to fill up their tanks to the top.

That will encourage MHR Retail Ltd to continue to offer discounts at the pump in the face of fuel prices which will inevitably continue to rise.

That way local motorists and Malthurst will all have a little extra in our pocket than would otherwise be the case.
