Berryburn Fund’s £23,000 fillip for Strathspey projects
Education, sport and community interests in the strath have benefitted from the latest windfall from the Berry Burn Community Fund.
The latest, 34th, round of funding awards totalled £93,528 to help finance some 14 projects spread across Moray and the Highlands, with the following among the recipients:
Grantown Grammar School (£12,182.53) for its Sports Field Infrastructure Rejuvenation Project;
Strathspey Farmers Club (£8,000) for livestock gates at the Grantown Show;
Strathspey Camanachd (£3,000) for Strathspey Camanachd Growth Initiative.
“Applications received were for more than triple the amount of funds available, therefore it was not possible to help everyone, no matter how worthy the cause,” said Alex Ross, chair of the fund. But the latest round brings the total contribution to date towards local causes in the area to £2,244,745.
“As in previous rounds there were many good applications and the requested support far exceeded the funds available. It is always regrettable that the fund cannot meet all the applications for projects that meet the criteria of BBCF.”
The Community Fund receives an index-linked annual budget of £255,501 from international renewables company Statkraft, whose 29-turbine Berry Burn wind farm lies between Forres and Grantown.
The date of the next Berry Burn Community Fund awards meeting is 20th October 2025, with the closing date for applications September 15. All details of how to apply, application form, and contact details for the Administrator, can be found online at https://berryburncommunityfund.co.uk
