'Go live' on Badenoch's 20mp limit to be set this month

Badenoch's Highland Councillor Russell Jones has assured his constituents that 20mph signs are on their way.

He said today: "The new 20 mph road sign roll out is continuing across towns and villages in Badenoch and Strathspey this month and a ‘go live’ date will be announced soon when the speed limit will come in to force."

But there was an extra dimension to the main streets in Kingussie and Newtonmore.

He explained: "The High Street in Kingussie and Main Street in Newtonmore will also be included in this scheme although, because they are part of the A86 trunk road and therefore under the control of a different roads agency, the roll out time will be slightly later."

Some signs are appearing in side streets. One was erected today in Gynack Road in Kingussie.

Comments on social media have been positive – with one observation about the need to see lorries cutting their speed as they enter the Badenoch capital from the north end.

Lindsay Dawson posted today: "I think it’s a great idea, the speed some lorries enter the village pass the duck pond is ridiculous, makes the houses shake."
