The Strathspey and Badenoch Welfare Football will make a long awaited return this evening.

A ball has not been kicked since the late summer of 2019 due to the Covid pandemic.

The new 2022 season had been due to finally get under way a week ago until the three local fixtures had to be postponed with just a hour to go.

The insurance oversight by national welfare football organisers caused headaches for officials, players and coaches alike.

But local league spokesman Alasdair MacNeill told the Strathy earlier this afternoon: "After last week’s 11th hour hiccup, welfare football finally makes its long-awaited return to the strath tonight."

Three games are on offer in the David Ritchie & Sons Ltd league, all kicking off at 7pm.

They are: Cromdale v Kingussie; Spey Valley v Boat of Garten and FC Abernethy v Aviemore Thistle.
