Organisers have been delighted with the uptake of places at tennis camps in the strath this summer as the sport continues to grow locally.

One of the latest was at Rothiemurchus and Aviemore Tennis Club where a second camp was held over three days at the end of last week.

Head coach Stephen Anniss said: "During the three days 45 children aged between three and 12 years old attended the tennis camps.

"In the different sessions the children focused on developing and improving their tennis skills whilst also testing their abilities in a variety of games.

"A fun time was had by all the children including a handful that this was their first tennis experience.

"Children attended from the local area as well as those on their holidays from other areas in Scotland or England.

"These holidays camps and the recent completion of the term time coaching has allowed the children to continue to be active and enjoy playing tennis throughout 2021 and has seen lots of the players significantly improve their tennis skills."

Mr Anniss was assisted by assistant coach Ross Lyon on the latest programme.

The head coach said: "Thanks to the Rothiemurchus tennis club and their facilities even the slight downpour on the Friday could not dampen the children spirits as the camps continued to run of the recently built covered tennis court.

"It is with these improved facilities that tennis in Rothiemurchus has thrived during 2020 and 2021 with an increase in the amount of people playing tennis as well as an increase in the tennis club's membership."

All the children who attended during the week left with a tennis related prize to showcase the fun and great tennis displayed over the three days.

Anybody interested in their child or children playing tennis should visit the Rothiemurchus & Aviemore Tennis Club website here as the new term time August to October classes have been uploaded for accepting bookings.

All ages and abilities are welcome.
