A pre-season friendly has been arranged for Strathspey Thistle which will see the Highland League team take on a select local welfare team.

The match will be played next Thursday (July 7) at Seafield Park – home of the Grantown club.

Strathspey & Badenoch Welfare League chief Alasdair MacNeill told the Strathy: "The SBWFA has been keen to foster formal ties with all levels of football across the area, so we jumped at the chance to take on the Strathy Jags in this friendly.

"David Ritchie & Sons Ltd have been massive supporters of welfare football for years so Brian Ritchie’s appointment as the club's head of football development is a huge step forward to achieving this goal.

"Brian has played in the league before so totally understands the importance of a feeder system into the senior game and shares our ethos.

"This is a very positive move forward which I am certain will bear fruit."
