Single goal keeps Newtonmore second

NEWTONMORE kept on the straight and narrow with a suitably narrow 1-0 victory at Glenurquhart.

Glen MacIntosh scored the only goal of the game in just seven minutes against the Glen, who are always a tough proposition on their home turf.

Newtonmore, however, could have scored more, but, in the end, had to be content with the win which puts them clear in second place.

They are now three points behind Kyles and two points ahead of Fort William and Kingussie. All have now played nine games apiece.

Kilmallie kept up a chasing position, just a point behind the Fort and the Kings with a 2-1 win at Inveraray.

Peter MacIntyre opened the scoring for Kilmallie in the 15th minute, then Garry MacPherson levelled for the Fynesiders on the half hour mark, before John Stewart snatched the winner immediately after the restart.

Also played at the top flight were a Camanachd Cup replay between Lovat and Glenorchy, which Lovat won 7-1. Greg Matheson scored a hat-trick for the Kiltarlity outfit.

In the MacAulay Cup, the two south semi-finals were played, with Kyles nearly coming a cropper at the hands of visitors Bute, who took them to 3-3 at the end of normal time.

Dunkie Kerr went on to complete his hat-trick for Kyles with the winner two minutes from the end of extra time.

Oban Camanachd also came through with a 4-3 win, completed in normal time, against a battling Glasgow Mid Argyll side. Scott MacMillan netted a double for Oban and Angus MacIntosh grabbed two for GMA.

In the Bullough Cup, for junior sides in the south, Aberdour grabbed a famous victory over Kyles Athletic, winning 4-2 to celebrate their 10th birthday as a club in style.

Kinlochshiel maintained their 100% record at the top of North Division 1, winning 5-1 away to Caberfeidh, while Skye won 3-1 against Strathglass, Sorley MacDonald netting all three, to lift them up to fourth place.
