STORM Dennis proved a more formidable opponent on Saturday than its predecessor with at least some shinty games surviving seven days earlier when Storm Ciara arrived.

The wintry weather throughout the week meant there was little surprise when the friendly between the Kingussie and Skye Camanachd first teams at Dunbarry was postponed on Friday.

The game between the club's second teams at the same venue was also called off.

Kingussie boss John Gibson implemented a quick change of plan, taking his side to Dalfaber for a Saturday morning training session.

Kingussie's pre-season preparations have been really hampered by the inclement weather.

With no match this Saturday they will hope their final pre-season friendly goes ahead.

They are due to be at home to Caberfeidh for the Bill MacPherson Memorial Plate on February 29.

Coincidently, the sides also meet the following week in the opening weekend of the Mowi Premiership fixtures.

Newtonmore had due to travel to Castle Leod to play Mowi Premiership rivals Caberfeidh but the adverse weather and an unplayable surface led to a Friday postponement.

The scheduled friendly between the Newtonmore reserves and Tayforth was also wiped out.

The story was much the same elsewhere. A Friday lunchtime pitch inspection at Mossfield led to Oban Camanachd's match with Glasgow Mid Argyll being postponed.

The sides are also due to face each other at Yoker on the opening day of the new season on March 7.

Glasgow Mid Argyll were also due to send their second team north to play Lochside Rovers at Ganavan but that one also fell foul of the weather. The match between Kyles Athletic and Oban Celtic at Dunoon was postponed on Thursday.

Mowi National Division side Strathglass had invited neighbours and Premiership opponents Lovat to play for their annual Murdo MacKenzie Memorial Cup at Cannich.

Throw up was put back 30 minutes in hope of the game going ahead but the rain was too heavy, resulting in an eventual postponement.

The noon throw up between the club's second teams at Balgate was also postponed.

Glenurquhart had been set to travel to the Bught Park to play Inverness but that friendly was called off following a pitch inspection as was their second team's meeting with their Kilmallie counterparts at Blairbeg.

With Craigard also unplayable, Glengarry's game with the Beauly first team was off as was Boleskine's clash with the Caberfeidh colts at Smith Park.
