PICTURES: Three young ice skaters from Aviemore impress at BIS competition in Sheffield
Three ice skaters from Aviemore have enjoyed great results at the BIS Open including a top of the podium performance from one of the young talents.
The competitions from beginner to National 3 Level were organised by British Ice Skating and held at the Bauer Arena in Sheffield between last Wednesday (September 17) and Friday.
Mia Munro, Ellie MacLeod and Genevieve Cassidy regularly train on the 20 metres by 12 metres ice surface at their local rink.
But all three of the girls adapted brilliantly to the full-sized 30 metres by 60 metres competition rink and delivered stand-out performances.
Mia Munro competed in the beginner girls 9 and under category and claimed seventh place out of 29 with a new personal best of 13.15 points from the judges.
This was only Mia’s second-ever competition and the result was a fantastic achievement for such a young skater.
Ellie MacLeod took part in the National 1 ladies 13 and over category and secured a great fifth place out of 30 competitors.
She delivered a clean skate and successfully met all her competition goals to score 14.58 points.
Genevieve Cassidy competed in the National 3 ladies 12 and over category and won her event topping a field of 30 talented skaters.
Her performance included a clean skate, a new personal best, and her first-ever double jump landed in competition.
She scored a very impressive 25.96 points from the judges leaving her well clear of the rest of the field.
Aviemore Ice Rink manager and coach Amanda Clinton said: “These results are a testament to the dedication and talent of Mia, Ellie and Genevieve.
“As their coach, I am so proud of their achievements this past week.”
