Newtonmore under-17 are Mowi London Shield winners after beating Glenurquhart under-17 9-2 in the final at The Eilan.

This was a repeat of last year’s final which the Glen edged 4-2 but it was to be Newtonmore’s day on Saturday.

‘More received a pre-match boost when Ross County granted Joe Coyle permission to play in the game and he scored an early double, either side of Josh Stewart’s strike to give the Blue and Whites a 3-0 lead.

Coyle’s opener came after good play from Josh Stewart and Jacob Bain down the ‘More right, and Coyle finished low by keeper Rory McWhirr’s legs.

Josh Stewart ran at the heart of the defence following Logan Mccormack’s ball forward, to add the second before Coyle’s snapshot went low into the goal.

Glenurquhart had phases in the game, but the Newtonmore defence were tidy and dealt with all that came their way.

Joe Coyle’s younger brother James then netted twice, again punctured by Josh Stewart who netted his second, before the Coyle brothers both went on to complete their hat-tricks.

Newtonmore’s eighth was the goal of the game as a lofted ball into James Coyle at full forward was flicked on first-time into the left flank where Joe Coyle took a touch to the byline before a fantastic cutback found James Coyle made no mistake.

James Coyle scored for the fourth time with David Fraser and Kaleb Power countering for the Glen in the second half to make the final score 9-2 to the all-conquering Newtonmore team.

Four-goal James Coyle was awarded the coveted Douglas MacKintosh memorial medal as player of the match whilst ‘More skipper Arran Ford was presented with the London Shield by Alister MacKinnon from the Camanachd Association.
