New boy Daniel Sloss said he is excited by the season ahead after Newtonmore won 2-0 away against Prleague runners-up Caberfeidh.

The result is a very good start for the Eilan outfit under the new management of Peter Ross.

They secured the win despite having to play without their stand-out defender Rory Kennedy from the hour mark after he suffered a nasty head injury in an accidental clash with Craig Morrison.

He required nearly 30 stitches behind his ear despite wearing a helmet but is expected to be fit to play this weekend at home to promoted Fort William.

Kennedy received first aid before being taken to hospital by his father.

Sloss said it was an ‘incredible experience’ to make his debut along with younger brother Matthew.

“We worked hard, played with heart, and it felt amazing to secure our first win with such a difficult fixture,” he said.

“It’s just the start but this victory shows what we’re capable of when we work as a unit.

“I’m really impressed with the effort from everyone on and off the field and I can’t wait to see where we go from here.”

The brothers joined from Oban Camanachd after a falling-out last year citing Peter Ross as a major factor in their decision to make the trek to the Eilan.

Daniel played from the start at wing-back moving to full-back when Kennedy had to go off and acquitted himself very well in both positions.

Matthew came on at half time in a bruising encounter to replace Joe Coyle - who later came back on - in the forward line and also played very well.

Fort William got their return off to a flying start on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Kyles Athletic at An Aird.

Their goals came from Lachie Shaw 2 (46th & 89th) and Archie MacKinnon (60th) with the vistors scoring through Scott MacDonald (80).
