Newtonmore boss ‘quietly confident’ ahead of Kingussie derby game
There will be double derby delight for Kingussie and Newtonmore supporters as their first and second teams both clash over the course of this weekend.
First up, the Kingussie and Newtonmore senior sides have a Mowi Premiership meeting at the Dell tomorrow (Friday) when the sides will once again contest the Sir Tommy MacPherson Memorial Cup.
Kingussie trio Thomas Borthwick, Liam Borthwick and Lee Bain missed Saturday’s win at Kyles but whilst one returns for the derby, there are doubts over the other two.
Manager Iain Borthwick said: “We’ve no new injuries, just a few tired legs.
“Lee (Bain) will be back and I’m hopeful about ‘Tuck’ (Thomas Borthwick) too.
“I’m less sure about Liam (Borthwick) though.”
Newtonmore’s Conor Jones returns from suspension and co-manager Norman MacArthur said: “It’s a derby so it’s always a hard game and I think it could go either way.
“I’m quietly confident; I might not have been so a couple of weeks ago but some things have clicked into place recently.
“We’re due a result in this one.
“Euan Dingwall obviously misses out with his broken collarbone but it’s good to have Conor Jones back and Joe Coyle will play.”
The following day, the Kingussie and Newtonmore second teams battle it out for a place in the HIS Sutherland Cup final.
The semi-final venue would have been decided by a toss of the coin but with the Newtonmore Highland Games taking place at the Eilan, the sides have agreed to play the tie at the Dell.
The winners will meet either their Skye Camanachd or Fort William counterparts in the final.
