Two victories were notched up last Thursday by the Kingussie club.

The Badenoch women’s team travelled 58 miles to play at Elgin.

Two of the four rubbers required match tie-break with the visitors winning both.

Second pair Marjory and Kirsty Deans shrugged off losing the first set, in the 2v2 contest, to record a whitewash second set. The Badenoch team took the breaker with ease (10-3).

They had a more comfortable win against the Moray team’s first pair.

Meanwhile Helen Peebles and Michelle McCormick’s opening round tie was a closer affair. It lasted so long that only the first set of their second rubber was completed.

The pair can feel aggrieved because, when the time limit was reached and play had to stop, they were up 5-2.

Division 2 is shaping up to be the most competitive. Having played three matches, no team has a 100 per cent record.

Kingussie lead the way due to their better sets won to sets played percentage but even bottom club Inverness B is only two points behind.

Kingussie men were also up against a side from Elgin. Kenny Deans and Chris Donald were involved in a topsy turvy sort of match in the first round. The duo came out of the starting blocks like men possessed, storming to a 6-0 win.

Their efforts caught up with them and the Moravians managed to stop the rot, going on to level matters with a 1-6 scoreline.

Then came the first to ten tie-break which was very competitive, points going with serve until the homesters broke serve at 7-7 and, steadying the nerves, managed to successfully hold the next two points.

The rubber had a knock-on effect with Colin Ramsay and Grant Davis only managing to complete one tightly fought set.

• It was not a very successful week for the Grantown club with three heavy defeats.

The men’s A, men’s B and mixed A losses were offset to some extent, by one very conclusive victory for the women’s second sting, at home to Forres B.

• There were two wins and two defeats for the Rothiemurchus and Aviemore women. The A team were at Elgin and in a very closely contested match only lost out by one set.

The home team have not provided any details so it is not known if play had begun in the second set of the unfinished rubber, but a draw could have

been achieved had time allowed.

However, that scenario was not put to the test and Rothie had to be content with the one point awarded for playing the fixture.

The fourth string took the club’s tally to two losses when they lost out on their trip to the coast to play at Lossiemouth.

The two wins came in the 3rd Division (Highland) with both the B and C teams recording the maximum 8-0 scorelines.

The men made it three defeats for the club, returning to Aviemore having lost 6-3 points at Tain.
