Kingussie take to the field against Fort William at An Aird on Saturday in the knowledge that just a point will give them a fifth successive Mowi Premiership title.

The jeopardy for the Red and Blues is that defeat means the championship goes to rivals Newtonmore who, having completed the season, hold top-spot on goal difference.

The Kings will be without Robert Mabon and Roddy Young through injury and will check on Zander Michie who suffered a hand injury in Saturday’s shinty-hurling international.

The Fort, newly promoted to shinty’s topflight at the end of last season, stayed in the title race until their penultimate game of the season and they will be without Scottish international Lachie Shaw.

Kingussie keeper Bob McGregor, who was named man of the match in last Saturday’s Scotland-Ireland crosscode international, said: “We know it’s not going to be easy against Fort William who are a very good team and have shown that this year.

“We all know what’s at stake but I think we just have to try and forget about that and concentrate on the game.

“Thankfully the boys who featured for Scotland on Saturday came away with no major injuries so that’s a big plus.”

Skipper Thomas Borthwick said: “The squad is feeling extremely determined for this weekend’s game against Fort William.

“Fort have shown their quality this year and have had a fantastic season and taken no time at all to settle back into the premier league.

“So we are expecting a tough game. It’s not ideal circumstances that once again teams are playing into November with weeks between previous games so hopefully some changes can be made to somehow prevent that.

“In the meantime we are all focused on heading to An Aird to try and finish off another successful season.”

Boss Iain Borthwick said: “It is of course a must win game this weekend after a long season which should have been finished weeks ago.

“But the boys know if they want to compete in all finals and to win leagues then this is what happens every year.

“We’re still training well and the boys will be ready for Saturday.”
