STRATHSPEY Thistle boss Charlie Brown has his eyes set firmly focussed on getting his team off to a winning start in their season opener in the Highland League.

The Jags will be looking to hit the ground running as they welcome Forres Mechanics to Seafield Park, a team that the manager is very familiar with. He said: “Forres is a tough first game, but one in which we are capable of challenging for the points.

“We watched them recently, and my knowledge of the players that are there will have us prepared.”

A difficult pre-season ended with the cancellation of a friendly away to St Duthus on Tuesday evening as the Jags manager looks to ensure that his side kick off without any fresh injury worries.

He said: “Our squad is getting to the point where we want it to be. Unfortunately, that is taking a wee bit longer than we would have liked but once we get the last few signings over the line we will be there.”

Delays in the registration of new players has been largely due to the Badenoch and Strathspey Welfare League season running until Tuesday with several of the club’s targets waiting for its conclusion before putting pen to paper.

Brown has, however, managed to secure the signature of striker Alan Kerr. The experienced forward man joins the club on a one year deal having left Clachnacuddin at the end of last season.

Kerr (29) is the latest addition to a list of summer signings that also includes attacking striker Ben Cullen, defender Jack Wardrop, goalkeeper Oliver Kelly and midfielder James Fraser.
