Thomas (17) says he was pleased with his performance which gave him victory in the event for the first time in his career.

He said: “It was good, I kept it easy in the first half and then at 2.5km I decided to launch at it.

“I wasn’t really aiming for a time, I just wanted to win today.”

Thomas is no stranger success as he is gaining a reputation as one of the most promising young athletes in Scotland.

He has previously won the Inverness 5k at the Inverness Half Marathon in 2023 and 2024.

He also represented Scotland at the International Youth Cup in Slovakia in May.

Thomas hopes he can continue his good form into other competitions later this year.

Speaking about his form this year, he said: “I have had a few Scotland call-ups which I have been proud of, but I have had a few injuries as well.

“Now I am looking to cross country next.”
