Forres Mechanics crush Rothes in North of Scotland Cup with eight-goal romp in Moray derby at Mosset Park

Strathspey Thistle bad luck continued last night as they suffered another 3-2 defeat and hit the woodwork three times.

Clach beat the Jags 3-2 in the North of Scotland Cup with first half goals by Logan Fraser, Allan Laing and Shaun Miller setting the Inverness men up for victory.

Dylan Lawrence and sub Aaron Nicolson replied for Jags but they were denied an equaliser by the frame.

The Moray derby in the cup turned into a Mosset Park massacre.

Forres Mechanics ruthlessly disposed of Rothes with four goals in each half to rack up a whopping 8-0 victory.

The Cans will now play Lossiemouth in the quarter-finals.

Avenging a 3-0 league defeat at the start of the campaign in devastating fashion, Mechanics spaced out their scoring with Sam Nixon’s 10th minute header, Kyle MacLeod’s 20th minute strike and goals by Matty Jamieson and Aidan Cruickshank (pen) taking the score to four at the break.

Calum Brown added a fifth and sub Kieran Hayllar netted his first-ever senior goal with his first touch.

Sub Calum Frame became the seventh Forrers scorer on the night on 74 minutes and a superb Jamieson finish ended the Speysiders’ misery.

Forres have now scored 17 goals in their last three outings.

Wick Academy were 4-0 winners at Invergordon, who had a player sent off after just six minutes.

Kyle Henderson, Brandon Sinclair, an own goal and Gordon MacNab made up the Scorries’ total.

Banks o’ Dee beat Keith 3-1 in the Aberdeenshire Cup and Jonny Crawford’s goal earned Formartine United a 1-0 success to oust holders Inverurie Locos.

Junior side Hermes knocked Turriff United out for the second year running, winning on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes.
