Newtonmore’s Jude Iley has won the district ladies singles championship.

She now qualifies for the national championships in Ayr on August 1.

It was an eventful weekend for Newtonmore Bowling Club at the district championship finals held in Fort William.

On Friday night the senior ladies 4s made a valiant effort but succumbed to a strong team from Kirkwall 20-9.

Saturday afternoon saw Jude take on Barbara Gear from Fortrose in the ladies singles. Jude started well and opened up a 6-1 lead. The following end saw Jude lying four, but Barbara trailed the Jack to score three herself.

Jude stretched her lead to 11-5, but Barbara came back and played longer ends to take the lead at 14-12.

The game then remained tight with a number of single shot ends. Jude managed to regain the lead at 18-17 and then managed to secure victory with a 3 to win 21-17.
