Great Scott claims the Ladies Open at Boat of Garten Golf Club

The Boat of Garten Golf Club Ladies Open attracted a strong field of players from many counties throughout the country on Sunday.

The competition was mostly played in pleasantly warm and dry overhead conditions although light rain did set in in the afternoon.

In the scratch section Hilary Scott, from St Regulus, provided the best score of the day, a gross 80, to ensure that her name went on the trophy for the first time.

Runners-up were Susan MacVicar (Nairn) and Ann Gow (Inverness) who both shot scores of 86 with MacVicar having a better last 9 holes.

In the silver division local player Jenny Ridley (19) produced a winning nett score of 68, a single shot ahead of Penny Docherty (20) (Murrayfield) with local players Anne Weller (20) and Fiona

Young a further shot back on nett 70.

In the bronze division the scoring was exceptionally good with local players dominating.

Pam MacGillivray (29) enjoyed a three shot win with her nett 66. Shona Fielding (24) and Lynda Coles (34) tied on 69 with Fielding winning on countback.

Ali Bruff (21) (Ravelston) took fourth place on 74.

Last Saturday there was another good entry for the men’s Craigard Hotel Trophy and with fine overhead conditions the scoring was remarkably low with 14 players shooting sub 70 rounds.

Jim Brady (23) continued his excellent run of form with a nett score of 62 to snatch a one shot victory over Ron Lyon (13) and Paul Downs (3).

Downs had a superb round of gross 66, including a hole in one at the 152 yard 9th hole where his 9 iron shot bounced once before trickling into the hole, his third career hole in one.
