Grantown Utd face long trek to take on Greenock side Bellaire in national welfare cup
The Welfare Football national cups progressed to their next phases at the weekend with the Strathspey & Badenoch Welfare Football Association still being well-represented.
The Scottish Cup saw the unfortunate situation of having Grantown Utd and Aviemore Thistle face each other in the competition’s second round.
This would mean at least one side would have to drop out into the Highland Cup, and that ended up being the Jags after United ran-out 5-2 winners at the weekend on the Aviemore pitch.
In the Highland Cup, Badenoch Utd sadly bowed out the competition, going down 4-0 away to North East side Portsoy.
FC Abernethy similarly dropped out following a hefty 13-1 defeat at home to Methlick, also from the North East Welfare FA.
Cromdale will travel to Banff to face Macduff in their delayed encounter this Saturday.
The draws were made on Tuesday for the remaining sides, and Grantown Utd will face a long trek south to face Greenock side Bellaire in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.
Aviemore Thistle have a slightly less gruelling trip to make as they will face North East side Invercairn at the club’s Inverallochy home.
And should Cromdale overcome Macduff, they will face a home tie with FC Thistle of the Forres & Nairn Welfare league.
