Teenager on loan from Ross County scores hat-trick as Invergordon reach Scottish Cup first round for the first time in their history
TORRAN Lambie says to score a hat-trick in the biggest result in Invergordon’s history is a great feeling.
The 17-year-old was the man of the match as Invergordon defeated Dunipace 3-1 in the Scottish Cup Second Preliminary Round.
He helped the North Caledonian League champions reach the first round of the competition for the first time in their history. They will find out their opponent when the draw is made on Sunday night.
The Dulnain Bridge youngster, who is on loan from Ross County at Invergordon, says it was a great feeling to help the club reach new heights by making the first round for the first time.
He said: “It is a great feeling, we have been working towards this as a team and it was really good to get through and pull it over the line.
“They were a really physical side, direct and they know the dark arts. It was just battling with that and getting on the ball and doing what we could do.”
Dunipace went in front six minutes before half time and had the majority of possession during 90 minutes.
However, Invergordon pushed for an equaliser late on and it came when Lambie found space in the box to score in the third minute in injury time.
In extra time, he scored in the 96th minute when he connected with a cross on the right wing to fire home from close range.
He then killed the game off when he picked the ball up on the left wing and charged into the box before firing into the top right corner.
Lambie, a pupil at Grantown Grammar School, who has previously been selected for the Scotland Schools squad, says the team have been working hard on maintaining their stamina throughout the entire game and he said in the end, that proved to be the difference between the two teams.
He said: “It was really tight, but I always believed that I could get a goal. The team were pushing really well, it was about staying in those good positions and making sure I was there.
“The fitness levels really showed, we were able to stretch them and run in behind and just cause them problems in extra time. We were dominant and it was just about getting it over the line.”
Invergordon now look forward to finding out who they face in the Scottish Cup first round when the draw is made on Sunday night.
Lambie says the team are keeping their feet on the ground and will look forward to facing anyone, just delighted they are still in the competition.
He said: “It is a great feeling, obviously we’ll go as far as we can and it is just about working week in and week out.”
