Garten Cup claimed at the Boat with a nett 67

At Boat of Garten this week the gents competed for the Garten Cup, first presented in 1938.

Alan Gristwood (9) produced his lowest round of the season with a 4 under par nett score of 67 to hold off the

challenge of Tom Burns (9), but only by a better last 9 score.

Local Pro Ross Harrower produced the lowest gross score of the day, a 1 over par 70.

Leading scores: Garten Cup - winner, A Gristwood (9) 66 BL9; r/up, T Burns (9) 66; K Aitken (9), G Eastwood (11) 70; J Thompson (17), R Quinn (18), A Boxx (19) 71.

On Saturday the ladies competed in their May Medal which also doubled up as qualifying round for the Ladies’ Club Championship.

There was a three way tie at the top with Dorothy McDonald (22), Myra McLachlan (37) and Caroline Holroyd (16) all returning nett 75 scores, McDonald just nudging ahead with a better last nine holes.

Fiona Young (17) and Anne McFarlane (26) both shot nett 78 and were the only other players to break 80.
