Camanachd Association plans to expand shinty from Grantown

Strathspey Camanachd has announced that Bob Davies has been appointed to the new role of club development officer.
The four-year role has been made possible through support from sportscotland Direct Club Investment funding, and matched by the Grantown club and its sponsors.
The post aims to establish the sport in all Strathspey primary and secondary schools, increase the club’s youth and family membership and create an opportunity for youngsters with a disability in Strathspey and Moray to take up the game.
The plan is to create a club structure and ethos which will endure well beyond the four-year period and grow the club’s current membership both playing and non-playing.
Camanachd Association regional development manager Ronald Ross explained: “In the longer term, there is a desire to develop shinty in Moray and establish links with a number of schools and villages in that area.
“We see Strathspey Camanachd playing a key role in this, giving young people in the area a pathway to be introduced to and take up the sport.”
Garry Reid, sportscotland lead manager commented: “This investment to support club development over a period of four years gives the club time to embed significant developmental change and we are excited to see what can be achieved with Strathspey Camanachd.”
This funding is the second sportscotland direct club investment into shinty with the Fort William post already up and running. It is targeted at supporting clubs with a clear vision of how they can make a positive impact on their local communities.
