Strathspey Thistle lost 5-0 to title chasing Buckie Thistle who made it 23 Highland League wins in a row on Saturday.

But despite the Moray side's stunning run Fraserburgh remain favourites to claim the crown.

Buckie beat the Jags on Saturday to continue their winning ways dating back to the start of October last year.

However, Fraserburgh refused to budge from top spot as they overcame what looks like their toughest remaining hurdle with a 3-1 victory at Rothes.

It means Broch stay top by a point, having won their last eight league fixtures themselves.

Buckie were 2-0 up inside eight minutes against the Grantown side with Andy MacAskill and captain Kevin Fraser on target.

Top scorer Sam Urquhart then got in on the act, netting a hat-trick including a penalty to take his tally for the campaign to 28 and wrap up a comfortable success.

Buckie, who play Wick and Clach in their last two games, take time out from league action this Saturday as they meet Brora Rangers in the final of the Highland League Cup at Nairn’s Station Park.

Fraserburgh also raced into a 2-0 lead at Rothes with Grant Campbell and Sean Butcher scoring. Rothes had Gregg Main sent off but quickly got a goal back from Greg Morrison, but Scott Barbour sealed the points for the visitors after the break.

Broch host Nairn County on Saturday and finish their campaign at home to Forres.
