Brora at top of Highland League after 7-0 win over Strathspey Thistle
Brora Rangers are top of the Highland League on goal difference after a 7-0 win at Strathspey Thistle.
The goals came from Craig Mackenzie, James Wallace (2), Jordan MacRae (2), Tony Dingwall and Andy Macrae.
A double figures romp and a goalless draw formed the two other results of the day in the Highland League.
Rothes were on the receiving end of their heaviest defeat in years, a 10-2 thrashing at home to Formartine United.
Scott Adams, Julian Wade and Jonny Crawford (pen) had United 3-0 up inside 20 minutes and although Gregor MacDonald pulled one back before half time, the visitors were even more ruthless in the second half.
A second Crawford spot kick and goals by Matthew McLean, Adams again, Aidan Combe and Callum Youngson put United 8-1 up.
Jake Thomson netted a second Rothes goal but a Tyler Mykyta double took Formartine’s tally to ten.
There were no goals at Spain Park, to the credit of visitors Lossiemouth who held one of the title challengers, Banks o’ Dee to a stalemate in Aberdeen.
Champions Buckie Thistle got their title defence under way but lost to a last minute goal at Inverurie Locos.
Locos led through a Cole Anderson goal before Cohen Ramsay equalised with 15 minutes to go, and Lohan Johnstone popped up with the home winner.
Huntly made it two wins out of two thanks to a Matty Wallace goal and a Sam Robertson double to see off Wick Academy 3-0.
Forres Mechanics hit back from 2-0 down at Turriff United to rescue a point.
Two in a minute by Ewen Robertson and Dylan Stuart put United in command until Aidan Cruickshank’s 66th minute penalty and an 85th minute leveller by captain Mark McLauchlan got Mechanics their first point.
Keith went down 2-0 at Clach, Allan MacPhee scoring both goals for the Lilywhites.
And Deveronvale got their first point in battling fashion as new signing Ben Hermiston’s first for the club cancelled out Scott Barbour’s early opener for Fraserburgh in a 1-1 draw at Bellslea Park.
