After lots of delays mainly due to covid, frost, covid, frost, covid and rain, the weather last week allowed the contractor DOE Sports to do the work to transform the tennis courts at Newtonmore.

Club spokesman Ian Gibson said “We have so many people to thank.

"The work on the courts themselves was only possible because of the support of the local community through the Co-op local causes programme which paid for about two thirds of the cost. Our contractor has carried out an excellent job."

He added: “ The new nets and posts were largely funded by the Baillie Gifford Community Awards programme through Foundation Scotland. This fund has provided lots of support to the shinty club too over the years and we are very grateful to them.

“As can be seen in the photos of committee members and friends at the inaugural session the three courts are in an appropriate blue colour and have transformed the look of the area around the bowling club.

"For members and visitors we now have a vastly improved playing surface and we look forward to more people giving tennis a try. The latest coaching sessions – by popular coach Stephen Annis – from tots to adults are now open for booking through the Newtonmore tennis club website."
