Why is the ice now so nice in Aviemore?
The ice will be even more nice at Aviemore’s community ice rink after the arrival of a very welcome piece of kit on four wheels.
The Sport Ice Elektro 124 is an ice resurfacing machine designed to be used on small ice surfaces.
It has been designed to produce a high quality ice surface and will ensure that visitors to the rink at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort get a top notch skate.
The vehicle was purchased and brought over by Ireland by members of the Aviemore Glenmore Community Trust who created and operated the rink.
Trust chairman Duncan Swarbrick said: “We were in the position to afford to buy this machine thanks to the hard work of Amanda Clinton and her team over a very busy period over Christmas.
“We were fortunate that this became available second hand in Ireland, involving a wee road trip for collection.
“It is a great addition to the rink and for future expansion.
“It will allow a great quality ice sheet to be prepared more quickly between sessions and prevent excessive ice build-up which reduces energy efficiency.
“Over the last four years the ice sheet has had to be prepared with hand tools.“
