WATCH: One of the Cairngorm lynx gets up close and personal to wildlife camera before being caught

One of the released lynx got up close and personal to a wildlife camera before being captured by Kingussie.

Two additional lynx who appear to have been deliberately abandoned in the Cairngorms were safely captured last night.

Sadly one of the big cats died overnight and investigations are on-going to establish the cause of death.

The second pair of lynx were initially spotted on camera traps.

Staff from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland then baited a series of humane traps in the area to entice them with and worked with Police Scotland and rangers from the Cairngorms National Park Authority to monitor the area throughout the day.

The animals were captured at around 6.30 pm near to the Dell of Killiehuntly last night - the same area where two other lynx had been successfully caught the previous day.

They were taken to the nearby Highland Wildlife Park to be checked over by RZSS veterinarians but sadly one of the lynx later passed away.
