Feshiebridge feeding time for the ‘final’ feral pig of Boar-dnoch?
The wild boar said to be the ‘last’ of the illegally released herd into Badenoch last month has found friends in and around Feshiebridge.
One of them is Dominic Satny, who has found that the animal is ‘friendly’ and very fond of fresh fruit, especially apples.
He filmed the feeding session yesterday afternoon at Kincraig while admitting he was ‘not supposed’ to feed the animal which has been wondering the area around Loch Insh for some days now.
“We rang the Highland Wildlife Park for advice but there was no answer.”
Another local observer, Ken Pritchard, posted: “Wild pig on the Feshiebridge Road at White Cottage heading towards Lagganlia/Achlean junction. Not scared, pretty interested in the car. Who do I report this to?”
In an update he confimed that the sighting had been reported to Cairngorms National Park Authority, who advised that Police Scotland and NatureScot were lead on any sightings: “Useful to have What3Words location to hand if making a call.”
At Glenfeshie, Peter Cairns of SCOTLAND: The Big Project, offered some context in a post of his own: “Wild boar are present in other parts of the national park, as well as other areas of Scotland. They are a native species.
“This animal avoided being culled recently, when 15 other boar were captured and shot.
“I’m not advocating a course of action here, or expressing an opinion, but anyone reporting its presence should know that the outcome will be the animal’s death.
“The justification for this will inevitably generate different perspectives.”
