VIDEO of the newest Inverness bridge in action has been released by Highland Council to celebrate the crossing opening to traffic for the first time.

The Torvean Bridge, a new Caledonian Canal swing bridge which will operate in tandem with the existing Tomnahurich Bridge, welcomes its first public traffic on Monday.

The crossing is designed to operate alongside the other swing bridge to ensure that A82 traffic can flow continuously without the need for any delays whenever boats pass along the waterway.

It is hoped its opening will ease notorious tailbacks on the A82 whenever the old swing bridge was in operation.
