Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team members were called out yesterday to rescue a climber injured during an avalanche.

The alarm call came as the team received multiple reports of avalanches and white-out conditions in Coire an t-Sneachda yesterday afternoon.

The climber had a lower leg injury sustained in an avalanche.

A spokesperson for the CMRT said: "The climbers were able to self-rescue down to the coire floor, they were met by the team and the casualty was stretchered back to the ski area."

There was plenty of praise on social media for the bravery of the volunteers after they posted footage of part of their return in blizzard conditions.

Amanda Paladini stated: Conditions underfoot look treacherous and uncertain. Thank you for your bravery and determination out in the hills tonight."

Iain Burns posted: "Well done to the brave team for going out in that total respect in what you have to do."

Rach Mac stated: "That’s amazing team work there in horrific conditions. Well done all."

Alex Jae posted: "You guys are absolute heroes! Huge respect to you. I hope you get some well-deserved self-care after conditions such as this."

And Shaun Kirby said: "Wow...what an absolute team of heroes every one of them. Looks horrible out and yet you go out and save life. Total respect."
