Police in Grantown are investigating after vandals struck at the town's grammar school over the weekend.

It is understood that the culprits interfered with an electrical supply on the third storey of the school and windows were also smashed during the incident.

Headteacher Claire McGonigal told the Strathy: "I was extremely disappointed to see the vandalism at the school.

"At a time when budgets are stretched, it's particularly depressing to see smashed windows and destroyed property which will need to be replaced at the cost of other resources.

"However, it's important to remember that this is just a tiny minority of our community and this has been reinforced by the messages of support we have received.

"We will always contact the police on these occasions, and we have already had useful information passed to us which we have, of course, given to the police.

"Hopefully, we won't see any more of these incidents as we look forward to coming out of lockdown, a return to face to face learning and better weather in the weeks ahead."

Police Constable Dulcie Garland said: "At some point over the weekend those responsible have climbed onto the roof of the school and caused damage.

"We are carrying out various lines of enquiry and I ask any member of the public who may have information about this to contact Police Scotland."

Any witnesses can contact the force via 101 and quote incident number NM349/21.
