PATIENTS of Aviemore Medical Practice will from now be given the Astra Zenica vaccination rather than the Pfizer brand.

While people who are waiting for a second dose will remain unaffected, all new vaccinations will be the Asta Zenica inoculation.

A spokeswoman for Aviemore Medical Practice wrote on Facebook: "Our last clinic was on February 26, in which we completed the 65-69 age group, and vaccinated about half of the under 65 at risk group.
"This was our last Pfizer clinic for first doses, and we are now changing to Astra Zenica.

"Pfizer will still be given for second doses."

The post continued: "Whilst we are waiting for Astra Zenica supplies to be delivered, we are taking the opportunity to give second doses to patients aged over 75 years, and to shielders. These patients are currently being phoned and booked in for Friday March 12.

"We had originally planned an Astra Zenica clinic on March 12, and had a small number of patients booked in for this. We will be contacting these patients today to invite them to a mini clinic this Thursday March 11.

"We are then hoping to be able to continue with first doses of Astra Zenica on Friday March 19.

"Once we can confirm this, we will be texting patients who are under 65 at risk, and then those aged 60-64, inviting them to book an appointment online. Patients who don’t or can’t book online will be phoned to ensure no one misses out.

"Patients are not required to wait 15 minutes after Astra Zenica, which will allow us to run bigger clinics."

The medical practice said it had employed two temporary members of staff to make phone calls to patients, but said they did not have access to medical records.

The spokeswoman added: "If you have any questions or concerns about the COVID vaccine, visit www.nhsinform.scot/covid19vaccine or call 0800 030 8013 (available 8am–8pm, 7 days a week).

"Beware of scams and anyone asking for money to get the vaccine done - it is free for all the population."
