The polls have opened in the UK general election 2024 as voters across the Highlands and across the nation are set to choose the next government after weeks of frantic campaigning.

Voters will choose the next MPs for the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross and the Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire seats in the most competitive races for years.

Nationally Labour is still projected to have a huge win at the expense of the Conservatives so it looks more than likely that Keir Starmer will be Britain’s next Prime Minister.

Who you should vote for is of course down to you but we asked the candidates in both what their top priorities in the UK’s most northerly mainland constituency and the newly informed Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire seat.

We have also compiled a guide to help you with any questions about when and where to vote that contains information about voting in the event of last minute emergencies.
