MORE than two million Scots have now received at least one Covid-19 vaccination jag.

The country passed the milestone after another 41,184 people received their first injection in the 24 hours up to 8.30am on Thursday morning. This took the total to 2.023million. Another 10,221 received their second jag in the same period – for a total of 192,100.

However, the good news came amid reports of delays on the import of new AstraZeneca batches from India.

This delay means that the Scottish Government expects there to be 500,000 fewer doses available in coming weeks than had previously been thought. However, the delay is not expected to impact existing goals of giving at least one jag to all priority groups by mid April, and all adults by the end of July.

Meanwhile, a dozen new cases of the coronavirus were detected in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases rose from 4887 to 4899 when the latest figures were released on Thursday.

The number of people requiring hospital treatment for the virus in the NHS Highland area rose by one overnight, to 11.

There were 624 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland yesterday, representing 2.7 per cent of all tests carried out during that 24-hour window.

Some 405 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, a fall of 17.

And the number of people in intensive care, 38, was unchanged from Wednesday’s update.

Sadly, a further seven deaths were registered in the past day among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no newly-confirmed cases of the virus in either NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar overnight.

However two fresh positive tests were recorded in NHS Shetland, taking its running total to 221.

On the mainland, NHS Grampian’s cumulative tally rose by 31, to 13,927.

And 57 new cases were logged in NHS Tayside – taking its total to 13,744.

There have been 211,854 confirmed cases of the virus in Scotland since the pandemic first began.
