TWENTY-nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 4382 to 4411 when the latest daily update was released.

Thirty-one people were having treatment for the coronavirus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – down two from yesterday’s update. Eight of those were in intensive care, which was unchanged from Sunday.

There were 559 positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented seven per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Some 1428 people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals last night – 15 fewer than the day before.

Of those, there were 102 in intensive care – a fall of two from Sunday’s update.

No further deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, but the Scottish Government has warned that figures on a Monday are often artificially lower as many registry offices are shut at weekends.

Some 1,255,190 people have now had their first dose of the vaccine – an increase of 31,416 in the 24 hours to 8.30am on Monday.

The increase meant that 81,745 first doses were administered over the weekend, and more than 388,000 over the course of the entire week.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland there were no new cases in the Northern Isles in the past day.

But NHS Eileanan Siar registered three fresh infections, for an overall total of 250.

NHS Grampian recorded 19 new cases of the virus, to take its cumulative tally to 13,097.

And NHS Tayside’s figure increased by 22 to 12,704.

There have been 192,375 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
