A DOZEN new positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across NHS Highland.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 5392 to 5404 when Public Health Scotland released its latest daily update.

There were 735 fresh cases of the virus across Scotland in the past day – or 2.8 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Some 124 people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals last night – a rise of three from Wednesday – although the number of those in intensive care was unchanged on 14.

Sadly one further death has been reported among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new confirmed cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

There were 17 new infections across NHS Grampian – taking its cumulative total to 15,691.

And NHS Tayside’s rolling tally increased by 119 – to 16,205.

Some 243,610 known cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across the whole of Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

More than 3.44 million Scots have now had their first vaccination shot, while almost 2.35 million have received their second jag.
