A Badenoch kirk’s pews were packed at the weekend as the congregation was brought to book by its minister.

Literally!

The pews at Kingussie Parish Church were all filled by donated volumes of just about every kind as the members and their friends were invited in for ‘A book and a blether’ by Rev Robert Books….Brookes, sorry!

Anyone could look in and, for just a wee donation, could enjoy a cuppa and a cake or two while thumbing their way through histories, mysteries and a whole range of interesting secondhand books, specially donated for the occasion.

“There’s something for everybody,” said Mr Brookes as he shared a cuppa with the Strathy and the first batch of visitors.

And it was a such a successful departure for the church that he later confirmed the story was not over.

“Book and blether continues” he said. “We will be offering the same welcome again tomorrow (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday.

And the monies raised by donations left will go towards providing an extra life-saving defibrillator for the community, which will be installed beside the kirk.
