Keep your eyes open for at least one more wild boar in Badenoch

Is there still a loose wild boar in Badenoch?

The question is being posed tonight after the team which rounded up Monday’s illegally-released herd of feral pigs confirmed that eight animals had been humanely culled after being captured on Wednesday.

But pictures of the herd taken earlier in the week showed at least nine and some on social media had estimated even more had been among the family seen to be roaming woods and back roads between Insh and Kincraig, on land owned partly by Glenfeshie billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen and partly by Forestry and Land Scotland.

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN: It is just possible there is still a wild boar loose in Badenoch. Only eight of its herd were culled.

A spokesperson for FLS told the Strathy today: “There was originally a group of nine and it’s possible that one group has been seen in two locations, hence the figure of 20 that’s being bandied about.

“However, when we went to pick them up there were only eight.

“Eight were taken to an FLS location and eight were culled.

“We have no idea what happened to the ninth and it has not been seen since.”

Some are positing that the other member of the sociable herd might have already perished somewhere in the woods, possibly from the shock of being released into the wild or perhaps after an accident.

Any sightings should be reported to Highland Police.
