Dobbies staff in Inverness in line to lose their jobs have been assured alternative roles will be available for them with supermarket giant Tesco.

It was announced this week that the Inverness Dobbies, based next to the Tesco Extra store at Inshes Retail Park, is one of 17 identified for closure as part of a restructuring exercise by owners Ares Management.

In all, 33 Inverness staff stand to lose their jobs assuming the plan is approved - six full-time and 27 part-time.

This afternoon, however, Tesco has stepped in to offer some reassurance.

Stephen Macleod, store manager at the Tesco Extra, said: “We understand that this will be a worrying time for anyone affected by the Dobbies announcement earlier this week, but we’re here to help.

“Across our four Tesco stores in Inverness there will be various roles available for anyone impacted by the closure.

“We recognise the valuable skills and experiences that you could bring to Tesco, and we want to play our part to help safeguard jobs in our local area.”

Tesco supermarkets in Inverness are located at the Inshes Retail Park, Inverness Shopping Park, Tomnahurich Street and Dores Roundabout.
