“It’s good to talk” says a Highlands MSP aiming to phone every constituent and business who is requiring help

The Scottish Parliament’s business has been reduced to one day per week and MSP’s constituency offices have closed across the region but Highlands and Islands MSP Edward Mountain has said he is busier than ever helping constituents.

In a social media post, the MSP announced: “During these unprecedented times, I am being contacted by hundreds of constituents.

“My aim is to speak with each constituent so please include your phone number when you contact me by email.”

The Scottish Conservation regional MSP continued: “MSPs cannot hold surgeries or meetings to help their constituents but we are still working hard to help as much as possible.

"I believe it’s good to talk and politicians must make that extra effort to phone constituents and businesses seeking help.

"Making calls is even more important with the majority of people self-isolating, especially as some are living at home alone.

"Covid-19 has brought many challenges, particularly for the self-employed and tourism businesses. I have been made aware of many businesses who are struggling to pay the next bill. I have taken their concerns forward and I am lobbying the UK and Scottish Governments for more support.

"If a constituent or a business requires my assistance please contact me as soon as possible.”
