SIX fresh cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s overall number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 4930 to 4936 when the latest daily figures were published.

The number of infected people requiring hospital treatment in NHS Highland hospitals rose by one, to 11.

There were 495 positive tests for the virus across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 3.6 per cent of all those tested in that window.

Some 341 people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals last night – a fall of 12 from Monday’s update.

Of those, 28 were in intensive care. This was down five from yesterday.

But sadly a further seven people have died after testing positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh cases in either NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar, but there were five new positive tests in NHS Shetland – which now has a cumulative total of 229.

Twenty-eight fresh infections were registered in NHS Grampian, for a running tally of 14,071.

And NHS Grampian’s total rose to 13,931 following 13 new cases in the past day.

There have been 214,383 confirmed infections in Scotland since the pandemic began.

2.215 million people in Scotland have now had their first Covid vaccination jag, while 236,000 have had their second dose.
