Six new positive tests for the Covid-19 coronavirus detected across NHS Highland region

SIX new Covid cases have been recorded across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 5198 to 5204 when Public Health Scotland posted its latest figures on Monday.

There were 313 fresh positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the last daily update. This represented 2.8 per cent of all tests in Scotland during that period.

Ninety-four people were receiving hospital treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, of which five were in intensive care.

No new deaths were recorded in the past day.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh positive tests in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar overnight.

Eight new cases were detected across NHS Grampian, which saw its overall total rise to 15,395.

And there were 22 new positive tests across NHS Tayside, for a cumulative tally of 14,963.

There have now been 232,343 known cases of the virus in Scotland since the pandemic first began.

More than 3.12 million people have now had their first Covid vaccination jag, while over 1.85 million have received their second.
