For the charity sector it has been the toughest 18 months anyone can remember at a time when support was never needed more by so many people.

Many of the national and local events which our charities rely on so heavily and attract hundreds of fundraisers had to be cancelled and they were unable to provide the full level of support and care they would normally give due to lockdown restrictions.

But innovation and determination were put into overdrive and our charity organisations found ways to support those that needed their help the most.

There were online and virtual events, as well as socially-distanced support, from making food deliveries in the community to providing much-needed companionship via video calls ‒ or even through windows and from the end of the garden path!

Highland Heroes 2022 wants to shine a light on those special charitable organisations which pulled out all the stops to get help to those that needed it the most.

The award for charitable organisation of the year will be given to a charity, social enterprise or not-for-profit organisation which delivers outstanding service to support the needs of its users and/or the community.

Sponsoring the award for charitable organisation of the year is civil engineering firm, W M Donald. Director Elaine Donald from W M Donald said: “We’re delighted to get behind Highland Heroes 2022 and are honoured to sponsor the charitable organisation award.

“Charities provide so much support to individuals, families and communities on an ongoing basis that sometimes we forget just how vital a role they play in people’s everyday lives.

“The efforts of charities and organisations during the pandemic, with all of its challenges, reminded us all just how important they are and the real difference they make to people’s lives.

“We hope readers will get behind the campaign and nominate the charitable organisations in their community that do so much for others.”

Once all of your nominations have been submitted, our judging panel will create a shortlist which will then go before a public vote to choose the Highland Heroes 2022. As well as the main categories, there is also a special award, hero of heroes, which will be chosen from all of the award winners and announced on the night of the awards ceremony.
