SEVENTY-one fresh positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland health board area.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 8566 to 8637 when Public Health Scotland released its latest daily figures on Thursday.

The number of people being treated in NHS Highland hospitals for the virus fell by three overnight, and now stands at 12.

There were another 1825 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or six per cent of all those tested during that period.

Some 488 people were receiving treatment for the virus in hospital – 41 fewer than yesterday.

Of those, 58 were in intensive care, which was up seven.

And sadly another 22 people who previously tested positive for the virus have died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were six new cases of the virus in NHS Eileanan Siar (for a running tally of 368), two in NHS Shetland (for 352) and also a couple in NHS Orkney (for 143).

NHS Grampian detected another 162 new cases, to bring its cumulative tally to 22,305.

And there were 124 fresh positive tests across NHS Tayside, for a running total of 25,988.

There have now been 335,966 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.

Nearly 3.99 million adults have had the first dose of the vaccine in Scotland, while almost 3.03 million have had their second.
