SEVEN new Covid-19 infections have been detected across NHS Highland, the latest daily update from the Scottish Government has revealed.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases increased from 4961 to 4968 when the latest figures were released on Tuesday.

The number of people receiving treatment for the illness in Highland hospitals remained unchanged on seven.

There were 411 new positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented 2.8 per cent of the tests carried out during that period.

Some 250 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – a fall of nine.

Of those, 23 were in intensive care. This was up one from Monday’s update.

Sadly, another dozen people have died after previously testing positive in the past 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in either NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Thirteen new positive tests were registered in NHS Grampian, which saw its total rise to 14,326.

And NHS Tayside recorded 21 further infections – taking its cumulative tally to 14,175.

There have been 217,890 confirmed cases of the virus across Scotland since the pandemic began a year ago.

Another 26,572 people have received their first vaccination jag in the past day – taking the total to 2,436,398. And another 12,180 have had their second injection, for a rolling tally of 228,443.

The country remains on course to have offered a first dose of vaccine to all over 50s, and adults with underlying health conditions, by mid-April.
