A Sheriff called for a psychological report on an Aviemore man who had "a cavalier attitude" towards his punishment for head-butting an Inverness shopkeeper.

Jason Mullen appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court today after admitting the assault in Crown Stores, Kingsmills Road, Inverness, committed on December 31, last year.

At a previous hearing, Sheriff Margaret Neilson was not impressed by the 19 year old's attitude to the social worker who interviewed him.

She noted that he had a "couldn't care less attitude" about what may happen to him.

The Sheriff told Mullen of Milton Crescent, Aviemore: "It is time you grew up. It is pathetic what you said in the report. It is a shocking report."

He re-appeared before Sheriff Sara Matheson represented by solicitor David Patterson for sentencing on the assault offence and breach of a restriction of liberty order by removing his electronic tag.

Mr Patterson told the court: "Both reports are poor but I am asking for a psychological report to be prepared.

"He has a cavalier attitude and I believe there may be an underlying undiagnosed issue which explains his offending."

Sheriff Matheson ordered the report and deferred sentence again also for Mullen's good behaviour. He will come back to court on April 29.
